About Us
Emanuel''s Pastor, Reverend Paul Egensteiner, leads the congregation each week in worship and with sermons that call on individual self reflection and challenge personal and spiritual growth. We celebrate an "open communion" which means all baptized Christians are invited to receive the gifts of communion. All others are invited to join us at the altar to receive a blessing.

Emanuel is a member of the Metropolitan New York Synod of the ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America). We sponsor a large variety of social ministries, are home to a highly talented organist/choir director, and are proud of our hand bell choirs (their music is truly heavenly). Emanuel''s youth groups are active within both our church and local communities.

The people of our congregation have come together from various backgrounds and unite in the following statement of purpose:

It is our mission as the people of Emanuel Evangelical Lutheran
Church to Worship, Baptize, Learn, Teach, and Live the word
and love of God in Christ.

History
On November 11, 1893, the Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Emanuel Church of the old Augustana Synod was organized. They met in a meeting hall over a grocery store known as Washburn's, located next to the old train station. During this first year, 32 services were held and 3 infants baptized.

The first congregational meeting was held December 26, 1894. Alfred Larson was elected chairman. The income for the first year was $421 and expenses were $333. Balance in the account at this first meeting was $88 Read more...
