The Social Ministry Committee promotes outreach activities benefiting the local community, as well as programs in the greater metropolitan area and the world at large. The people of Emanuel do a lot! They offer their time, talent, and financial support in a caring way.

BLOOD DONATION DRIVE: Annually, in January

CARING COOKS: Volunteers prepare food for Emanuel families at times of  illness or other stress.

PLEASANTVILLE INTERFAITH FOOD PANTRY: Continual donations of money and food, and participation in food distribution bi-weekly.

INTERFAITH SOCIAL CONCERNS COMMITTEE: Ministry to Pleasantville and Hudson Valley residents (for example, fire victims).

ECUMENICAL LUNCHEONS FOR SENIOR CITIZENS: Providing use of fellowship hall, and volunteers to prepare food, serve, and clean up.

CROP WALK: (October) Help organize and walk in ecumenical walkathon to raise money for local and global hunger relief. 

OPEN ARMS SHELTER: Cook and deliver food for forty men the third Friday of each month.

BEDFORD CORRECTIONAL FACILITY CHILDREN’S PROGRAM: “Christmas in July” gift collection. Service as host family in summer.

WARTBURG HOME: Sewing winter ponchos for residents, and other support.

QUILTS FOR AIDS BABIES: Created by hand.

MIDNIGHT RUN: Food, warm clothing, toiletries delivered to homeless in  New York City – a cooperative project with Holy Innocents Catholic Church and the Pleasantville Synagogue.

BRONX YOUTH MISSION: Collection of school supplies, Christmas toys, and financial aid to After School and Summer Camp programs at St. Peter’s and Transfiguration Lutheran churches.

ST. JOHN’S LUTHERAN CHURCH (Bronx): Donations of clothing, household goods and used toys. Pick up is the 1st Monday each month.

CHRISTIAN CHILDREN’S FUND: Offerings enable sponsorship of two children in Kenya, with money for birthdays and Christmas.

ELCA WORLD HUNGER APPEAL AND DISASTER RELIEF: Donations throughout the year are encouraged. During Lent offering boxes are given to Sunday School children.
